Year-round, busiest in spring and autumn

General gardening, the hands-on kind

Weeding, pruning, hedge trimming, mulching and the general tidy-up a garden needs a few times a year. We do the work by hand, take the green waste away, and leave beds you can actually see the plants in.

What the job involves

General gardening covers the jobs that pile up when life gets busy. Beds disappear under weeds, hedges lose their shape, shrubs push across paths, and the mulch from three summers ago has gone to dust.

Weeding is done by hand and with hoes and weeding tools, roots and all where we can get them. On a neglected bed that makes for a slower first visit, but the soil is ready to plant straight back into afterwards.

Pruning and hedge trimming keeps shrubs, roses, natives and hedges in shape and off paths, windows and fences. We work from the ground and from a stable platform ladder for hedges up to about head-and-a-half height. We trim back to healthy growth and to a shape you're happy with; tell us if you want something formal, or just "back off the path".

Mulching finishes a bed off and is worth it in Bendigo, where summers are hot and dry. A good layer helps soil hold moisture and keeps weeds down. We can spread mulch you've bought, or pick up bulk mulch from a local landscape supplier and charge it at cost on the quote.

Tidy-ups cover the rest: raking leaves, cutting back spent perennials, clearing dead growth from corners and along fences, and sweeping up. Everything we cut goes onto the trailer and away.

How it works, step by step

  1. Show us the garden

Send a few photos with the form and tell us what bothers you most. Is it the weeds, the hedge, or the whole lot? For bigger gardens we'll arrange a quick look in person first.

  2. Agree the job and the price

We confirm what we'll do, in what order, and the price. If it's a big catch-up, we may suggest splitting it over two visits so the cost is spread out.

  3. Do the work

We start with whatever matters most to you, work methodically through the beds, and check with you before cutting anything back hard.

  4. Clear up and take it away

Paths swept, prunings and weeds bagged and loaded, and a walk-around or photos at the end so you can see the result.

How pricing works

Gardening varies too much for a set price, so every job gets a free quote. The main things that set the price are how much there is to do, how overgrown it's become, how much green waste comes out, and whether we're supplying mulch.

For most jobs we give a fixed price for the whole job, based on your photos and description. For larger or ongoing work we may quote a set number of hours per visit instead. Either way, we confirm the price before we start, and if we find something unexpected, like a bed that's mostly couch grass underneath, we talk to you before going further.

What we don't do

  • Tree felling, tree lopping or any work in tree canopies — we can point you to a qualified local
  • Chemical spraying of any kind
  • Work on or near power lines, including trees touching them
  • Retaining walls, paths or other landscape construction

Common questions

Will you get rid of the weeds for good?

No one can promise that honestly, because weed seed blows in and sits in the soil for years. What we do is pull weeds out with their roots, and then mulch, which makes a real difference. Regular visits every month or two in spring keep things under control.

Can you cut my hedge right back?

Most hedges handle a firm trim, but some plants don't recover from being cut hard into old wood. If you want a big reduction, we'll tell you what's likely to happen first and can stage it over a couple of visits.

When is the best time to prune in Bendigo?

It depends on the plant. Many deciduous shrubs and roses are pruned in winter, spring-flowering shrubs straight after they flower, and hedges get a trim in spring and again in late summer. We'll steer clear of hard pruning just before a heatwave or a hard frost.

Do you take the green waste away?

Yes. Everything we cut, pull or rake goes onto the trailer and leaves with us. If you'd rather keep some for compost, tell us which pile and we'll leave it.

Do I need to supply tools or mulch?

No. We bring all the tools. Mulch is your choice. You can buy it and we'll spread it, or we'll collect it from a local supplier and add it to the quote at cost.

Do you do regular garden maintenance?

Yes. A visit every month or two keeps most suburban gardens in good shape. We can pair it with your lawn mowing so there's one booking instead of two.
